Teaching is often described as rewarding, but anyone working in education also knows how demanding it can be. Between lesson planning, communication, classroom management, and the emotional energy required every day, finding moments to pause and recharge is not always easy. This is exactly why practices such as yoga, mindful breathing, and meditation are becoming increasingly relevant in schools not as trends, but as practical tools to support both teachers and students in everyday life.
En 10 to 16 May 2026, the course “Yoga for Teachers and School Staff: Enhancing Well-being in the Classroom” brought together educators from across Europe in Bologna for a week dedicated to well-being, mindfulness, and personal balance. The group included Zuzana Čí. and Zuzana Ča. from Zakladna skola s materskou skolou in Slovakia, Mia from Omnia in Finland, Agnès and Béatrice from Dinéault in France, EvaMarie from Vuxenutbildningen Borås in Sweden, and Anna from IIS Leopoldo Pirelli in Italy. Coming from different educational contexts, participants shared a common goal: exploring practical strategies to reduce stress, improve focus, and create healthier learning environments.
The week started gently, with an introduction to meditation and breathing techniques. Monday’s sessions focused on slowing down and becoming more aware of how breathing and attention influence energy levels, emociones, y concentration. Participants had the chance to reflect on their own routines and discuss the challenges teachers face in maintaining balance during busy school periods.
On Tuesday, the course moved outdoors for mindful activities designed to reconnect participants with their surroundings and encourage observation, presence, and calm attention. Through guided exercises and group reflections, the participants explored how simple mindfulness practices can be adapted for students of different ages and incorporated naturally into classroom life.
Wednesday deepened the practical side of the course. Alongside meditation y yoga practice, participants experimented with mindfulness exercises aimed at improving enfoque, body awareness, y emotional regulation. The atmosphere of the group became increasingly collaborative, with many participants exchanging ideas from their own schools and discussing how these approaches could fit different educational systems and age groups.
The focus then shifted toward comunicación y estrés management on Thursday. Through yoga sessions, reflective activities, and guided discussions, participants examined the impact of stress on relationships within schools and explored techniques to manage tension more constructively. The conversations were particularly meaningful, as many participants recognised similar challenges despite coming from different countries and professional backgrounds.

The final day brought together the different elements explored throughout the week. Friday’s sessions focused on emotions, self-awareness, and the role of mindful practices in creating more supportive classroom environments. Participants reflected on the week as a whole, shared personal insights, and discussed practical ways to continue integrating yoga and mindfulness into their daily professional lives.
By the end of the course, the group left Bologna not only with new activities and techniques to bring back to their schools, but also with a stronger awareness of the importance of well-being in education. The experience highlighted that taking care of teachers’ mental and emotional balance is not separate from learning—it is an essential part of creating positive and sustainable educational environments for everyone involved.
