Nowadays it is quite common to feel overwhelmed and to think that we are unable to cope with all our daily responsibilities. Stressful situations can appear both in our professional and personal lives, and it can be challenging to avoid conflicts when we find ourselves in a stressful environment. In this course the participants had the opportunity, through both theoretical input and practical activities, to explore different tools to manage and overcome conflict and stressful situations.
Die neue Auflage des Kurses “Stress- und Konfliktmanagement: Der Weg zu Resilienz und Zufriedenheit” took place in Bologna from 22/02/2026 to 28/02/2026. The participants came from different european countries, with Michaela from BBS Mayen (Germany), Irene from CEPA Enrique Tierno Galván – Arganda del Rey (Spain), Silke from Ludwig-Erhard- Schule Neuwied, BBS Wirtschaft Neuwied (Germany) and Vaiva from Radviliskis Vincas Kudirka Progymnasium (Lithuania).
On the first day the participants reflected on the meaning of the word stress through a brainstorming activity carried out in groups. Stress can be caused by a variety of stressors related to different aspects of life, such as physical conditions, the environment, family situations or work responsibilities. However, small amounts of stress can also lead to positive results, for example motivating us to reach our goals or to meet deadlines. For this reason, the participants learnt to recognise the difference between Distress (negative stress) and Eustress (positive stress).
Throughout the course the participants discovered a series of strategies, both cognitive und behavioural, aimed at helping them deal with stressful situations in the workplace. Through several group activities they had the chance to improve their planning and time management skills. In order to better manage stressful moments, they also practiced breathing techniques, muscle relaxation and visualisation exercises.
Another important topic addressed during the course was Einfühlungsvermögen, which is a key ability when dealing with conflicts. Sometimes it can be difficult to respond with empathy, especially when we have not experienced the same emotions as the person we are speaking with. Nevertheless, empathy can be trained and developed, and the participants learnt how to recognise it and distinguish it from other types of responses.
To successfully resolve conflicts it is also essential to communicate effectively. The participants explored the different communication styles and took part in a group activity where each member contributed to solving a conflict situation. Even though resolving conflicts can be challenging, this activity showed how such situations can also represent an opportunity for learning and personal growth. This approach can also be applied in professional environments and in the classroom.

The final topic discussed during the course was mindfulness, which refers to the practice of being fully present and observing thoughts and experiences without judging them. Mindfulness helps improve attention, self-awareness and emotional regulation. Mindfulness-based stress reduction is widely used as a technique to manage stress and support mental well-being. The participants also practiced mindfulness exercises and short meditations. These activities help individuals become more aware of their senses, thoughts and emotions, encouraging a stronger sense of presence and awareness.
Since the participants came from different cultural backgrounds, the course also offered them the opportunity to exchange ideas and learn from one another’s experiences. Most importantly, the course helped them understand that they possess the tools to deal with stressful situations and that, in some cases, conflicts can also lead to positive outcomes and personal growth.
