Mental health is becoming an increasingly central topic in workplaces and communities across Europe. Whether we work with young people, colleagues, or local partners, understanding how to recognize and respond to emotional challenges is key to building healthier, more supportive environments. With this shared motivation, a group of participants gathered in Athens for the course “Promoting Students’ Well-being and Mental Health in Schools: Strategies for Teachers and Education Staff,” held from 21/09/2025 to 27/09/2025.

The course brought together participants eager to learn more about promoting mental well-being and developing practical strategies for everyday work and life. The group was formed by Angelika, Heidi, Sarah, and Axel from Fachbereichsleitung FB-International. The training offered a balanced mix of theory, reflection, and hands-on practice, creating space for open discussion and personal growth.
The first day focused on introductions and building a sense of trust within the group. Participants discussed what mental health means in their personal and professional lives, and reflected on how awareness and communication can make a difference in any organization. The day closed with a short feedback session, establishing a daily rhythm of reflection that continued throughout the week.

The second day began with a morning wrap-up, revisiting the key ideas from the previous sessions. The focus then turned to building awareness about mental health — how to recognize early signs of stress or distress, and how to respond with understanding rather than judgment. Participants also experienced mindfulness activities designed to improve concentration and reduce tension, learning how small pauses can bring clarity and calm to busy routines.

Midweek offered a well-deserved break. The free day gave participants a chance to explore Athens, enjoy time outdoors, and reflect informally on what they had learned so far. Conversations flowed naturally, strengthening the bonds within the group.

Returning with fresh focus, participants began the day with another wrap-up before delving into emotional intelligence. Through discussion and group activities, they explored how emotions influence communication, collaboration, and decision-making. The sessions highlighted the value of empathy and self-awareness in managing relationships and reducing conflict.

The final day brought together the themes of the week. Participants examined the impact of bullying — not only in schools but in broader social and workplace contexts — and discussed strategies for prevention and response. The final sessions focused on coping with stressful situations and maintaining emotional balance in challenging environments. The week ended with a reflection circle and feedback exchange, closing the course on a thoughtful and positive note.

Over the course of the week, participants deepened their understanding of mental health and well-being, while also discovering the importance of self-care and empathy in their professional lives. The sessions in Athens combined practical strategies with genuine human connection, leaving everyone with renewed energy and insight. By the end of the course, it was clear that promoting well-being starts with povědomí — and that even small changes in how we listen, respond, and support one another can make a lasting impact.
