Nové vydání kurzu “Effective Group Management in Education: Building Teamwork among Students” took place in Tenerife from 9/11/2025 to 15/11/2025.This time, the course welcomed a dedicated group of educators from Italy, all representing Galileo Galilei di Avigliana. The participants were Manuela, Marika, Loredana, Giorgio, Domenica, Claudina, Giulia, and Sara.
During the course, participants explored several key aspects of teamwork and leadership. The first step was understanding the distinction between a group and a team. They learned that not every group operates as a team, since what truly unites a team is a common purpose. For this reason, an effective leader must always prioritize the shared objective and guide the group toward it.
Moreover, participants examined the different stages of team development and the characteristics of each phase. This knowledge helped them identify the most suitable strategies to handle challenges, resolve conflicts, and strengthen collaboration within their teams.
The second major topic of the course focused on the importance of team roles. Through a variety of interactive group activities, participants experienced firsthand how challenging teamwork can become when roles and responsibilities are not clearly defined. This lack of clarity often leads to confusion, tension, and miscommunication, and—most importantly—results in wasted time, as members remain uncertain about their individual tasks and expectations. These activities helped participants understand that clearly assigning roles is essential to ensure coordination, efficiency, and harmony within a team.
On the third day, the focus shifted to effective leadership. Participants discovered that good leaders must be adaptable and aware of both individual strengths and weaknesses as well as the overall group dynamics. They learned that there is no single correct way to lead; instead, different leadership styles can be equally effective, depending on the situation and the team’s needs.
Furthermore, participants were introduced to the basics of coaching and the value of adopting a růstový přístup. They explored how using positive, encouraging language and fostering motivation can help maintain a productive and supportive team atmosphere.
The final topic addressed during the course focused on encouraging peer feedback and peer assessment in the classroom. These strategies empower students to take a more active role in their learning, shifting the emphasis from grades to the overall learning process. Participants had the opportunity to explore and practice different peer learning and feedback techniques, gaining firsthand experience of what it feels like to learn through collaboration—just as their students do.
Overall, it was a rewarding and inspiring week, filled with meaningful learning experiences, knowledge sharing, and plenty of fun. Participants returned home equipped with a new set of practical tools, activities, and strategies that they can confidently implement in their classrooms to promote teamwork, engagement, and a positive learning environment.
