The ability to communicate naturally in English can open doors to professional growth, wider collaboration within the educational community, and a deeper appreciation of diverse cultural perspectives. In today’s interconnected world, educators are increasingly called upon to engage with colleagues, students, and learning materials that extend beyond their immediate environment. Recognizing these evolving needs, the Intermediate English Language Course for education staff offered a practical and immersive opportunity to strengthen essential communication skills. Through dynamic activities, guided practice, and a supportive atmosphere, the course created the ideal setting for participants to develop greater ease, clarity, and confidence in their everyday use of English.
From November 23 to 29, 2025, the course brought together 13 dedicated Italian teachers in the beautiful city of Porto, Portugal. Participants included Clelia, Marialuisa, Donatella, Maria Carolina, the two Concetta B’s, Maria Francesca, Giuseppina, Annunziata, Concetta C, Maria, Barbara, and Giuseppe. Hailing from schools across Italy, they quickly formed connections, united by a shared goal: enhancing their English for professional and personal use.
The course spanned five intensive days, with each day designed to build on the previous one and encourage natural speaking, listening, and confidence.
The program began with personal storytelling sessions. Participants shared experiences from their teaching lives, daily routines, and classroom challenges. This approach helped everyone ease into English in a meaningful way, emphasizing clarity and connection over grammatical perfection. Conversations turned to travel and personal exploration. Participants practiced describing places, recounting adventures, and reflecting on experiences, sparking lively exchanges and deeper engagement with descriptive language.
Midweek focused on aspirations and ambitions. Participants discussed professional goals, personal hopes, and educational projects. These discussions not only strengthened language skills but also deepened mutual understanding and team cohesion.
A day dedicated to hobbies and informal conversations allowed participants to relax while practicing spontaneous English. Sharing interests in sports, arts, and leisure activities created a friendly, interactive atmosphere that encouraged natural dialogue.

The final day explored emotions, impressions, and the subtleties of communication. Activities helped participants express tone and empathy effectively, rounding off the week with reflections on personal growth and language development.
By the end of the week, participants had enhanced their practical English for everyday professional contexts, from classroom interactions to overall communication. The course’s progression from personal introductions to discussions of dreams and emotions ensured tangible improvements in fluency, confidence, and komunikační dovednosti. Teachers left Porto not only with sharper English but also with renewed motivation to integrate what they had learned into their schools and classrooms.
