Teaching is a rewarding profession, but it can also be physically and emotionally demanding. Finding effective ways to manage stress, improve well-being, and maintain a positive classroom atmosphere is becoming increasingly important for educators. Yoga offers a simple yet powerful approach, combining movement, breathing, and mindfulness to support both personal health and professional resilience. Even a few minutes of practice each day can help teachers feel more balanced while creating a calmer and more supportive learning environment for their students.
The most recent edition of the course “Jóga pro učitele a zaměstnance školy: Zlepšení pohody ve třídě” was held in Tenerife z 12/07/2026 do 18/07/2026. Participants from various educational settings across Europe came together to explore how yoga can positively impact their teaching and school environment. The group of participants included Beatrice from Pesenti Cascina, Salvatore, Ilaria and Tatiana from NIA, and Marlene from Fachschule für Hauswirtschaft und Ernährung Haslach v Itálie; Jessica and Sabine from Wirtschaftschule am Oswaldsgarten v Německo; Teresa from Stiftelsen Fryshuset z Švédsko; Aleksandra and Edyta from AES v Polsko; and Jaroslava and Edyta from ZŠ Kubranská 80, Trenčín v Slovensko.

The programme began with interactive activities designed to help participants get to know one another and create a welcoming group atmosphere. A short digital quiz encouraged them to reflect on their existing knowledge of yoga as well as their personal and professional well-being goals, providing a useful starting point for the week ahead.
Participants were introduced to the foundations of yoga philosophy and terminology while exploring the growing body of research highlighting the benefits of mind-body practices in education. The course demonstrated how yoga can contribute to a healthier school environment by supporting concentration, emotional regulation, and overall well-being.
Practical learning was at the heart of the programme. Each day began with guided yoga and meditation sessions, followed by reflective journaling and breathing exercises (Pranayama) to improve focus, reduce stress, and support emotional balance. Participants also explored how mindfulness and yoga can strengthen communication, build trust, and encourage teamwork within school communities. A highlight of the week was an outdoor yoga session, where practising in a natural setting demonstrated how the combination of movement, fresh air, and mindfulness can enhance overall well-being.

Towards the end of the course, participants worked together to design practical yoga routines that could easily be introduced into the classroom to enhance focus, strengthen relationships, and create a more positive learning environment. They returned home with new skills, practical resources, and renewed inspiration to support both their own well-being and that of their students.
