Aprenda a gerir o stress controlando as suas emoções

Nowadays, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and to believe that we are unable to manage all our daily responsibilities. Stressful situations can affect both our professional and personal lives, and when we find ourselves in stressful environments, conflicts can become more frequent and more difficult to handle. During this course, participants had the opportunity to explore, through both theoretical sessions and practical activities, different tools and strategies to manage and overcome stress and conflict effectively.

The new edition of the course “Stress and Conflict Management: the way to resilience and satisfaction” took place in Palermo de 25/07/2026 to 31/07/2026. The participants came from all across Europe, with Karin from Vuxenutbildningen Partille (Sweden), Julija and Grozdana from Kindergarten Dječja mašta (Croatia), Aurora and María Teresa from IES Playa San Juan (Spain) and 2 participants from Portugal, coming from 2 different school : Ana from Agrupamento D. José I and Luis from Agrupamento de Escolas de Anadia.

On the first day, participants reflected on the meaning of the word stress through collaborative brainstorming activities. They explored how stress can be generated by a variety of stressors linked to physical, environmental, family-related, or work-related factors. At the same time, the course highlighted that stress is not always negative. In some situations, a moderate level of stress can produce positive effects, such as increasing motivation, helping us achieve our goals, or encouraging us to meet deadlines. For this reason, participants learned to distinguish between Angústia, which negatively affects well-being, and Eustress, a positive form of stress that can stimulate productivity and personal growth.

Throughout the course, participants were introduced to several cognitive and behavioural strategies designed to help them better cope with stressful situations, particularly in the workplace. Through group activities and practical exercises, they also had the opportunity to strengthen their planning e time-management skills. In order to improve their ability to manage stress, participants practiced breathing techniques, muscle relaxation exercises, and visualisation activities aimed at reducing tension and promoting emotional regulation.

Another important topic discussed during the course was empatia, considered a fundamental skill in gestão de conflitos. Showing an empathic response can sometimes be challenging, especially when we have never experienced the same emotions or situations as the person in front of us. However, participants learned that empathy is a skill that can be developed and practiced. Through discussions and activities, they explored how to distinguish empathy from other types of responses and how active listening and emotional understanding can contribute to more constructive interactions.

Since effective communication is essential for resolving conflicts, participants also explored different communication styles and their impact on interpersonal relationships. During group activities, each participant contributed to resolving conflict scenarios collaboratively. Although conflict resolution can be complex, these exercises demonstrated that conflicts can also represent opportunities for learning, personal growth, and stronger teamwork. Participants reflected on how these approaches can be applied not only in professional contexts, but also within educational settings and classrooms.

As participants came from different cultural and professional backgrounds, the course also became a valuable opportunity to exchange perspectives, compare experiences, and learn from one another. More importantly, the training helped participants realize that they already possess useful tools to deal with stressful situations and that, in some cases, conflicts can even lead to positive outcomes, stronger relationships, and personal development.
