Clear communication in English is essential for educators who want to connect with colleagues and students. The Basic English Language Course held in Zagreb from November 16 to 22, 2025, focused on building practical language skills that teachers can use confidently in everyday and professional settings. The course was designed to help educators improve their proficiency in English while also providing strategies to apply language skills directly in their teaching practice.
The course brought together six participants from I.C. Satriano-Brienza, Italy: Iolanda, Mariangela, Patrizia, Maria Antonietta, Irene Maria, and Maria Lopardo. Over the week, they engaged in a carefully planned programme aimed at developing a wide range of language skills, including grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The activities encouraged active participation, collaboration, and practical use of English in both everyday and professional contexts.

The programme was structured to gradually progress from foundational language concepts to more advanced skills. Participants began by strengthening their understanding of basic grammar and vocabulary and building confidence in simple conversational exchanges. As the week progressed, they engaged in tasks designed to expand their language range, including expressing personal opinions, describing experiences, discussing routines, and planning activities. Emphasis was placed on practical communication that educators could immediately use in classroom interactions, administrative tasks, and professional correspondence.
Throughout the course, a variety of interactive exercises and collaborative projects allowed participants to practice speaking and listening in realistic scenarios. Reading and writing activities reinforced vocabulary and grammar skills while also promoting the ability to compose clear and accurate messages in English. Participants explored topics relevant to daily life and professional work, such as presenting information, explaining concepts, and exchanging ideas in educational settings. This combination of structured instruction and applied practice created a supportive learning environment where participants could learn from both the instructors and each other.

By the end of the week, participants had made significant progress in their English skills and felt more confident using the language in both professional and everyday situations. The course demonstrated the value of structured, interactive, and practical language training for educators, showing how it can empower teaching staff to communicate clearly, work effectively, and engage with colleagues and students in a confident and professional manner. The participants left with not only improved English skills but also new strategies and ideas for continuing their language development and applying it within their educational work.
