Bullying and low emotional awareness can deeply affect the well-being of school communities.
Tackling these challenges is vital to creating safe, supportive learning spaces where every student
has the opportunity to succeed. This course aimed to equip educators with practical strategies to
prevent bullying while fostering emotional intelligence in the classroom.

The new edition of the course “How to Prevent Bullying and Cyberbullying in Schools and Promote Social Emotional Learning” took place in Tenerife from 29/06/2025 to 05/07/2025.

The participants came from all across Europe, with Stephan from Stadtteilschule Fischbek-Falkenberg in Germany, Szilvia, Vivien and Orsolya from Tápiószőlős-Újszilvás Református Általános Iskola és Óvoda in Hungary, Nathalie and Karelle from Lycée Professionnel Albert Londres in France , and Patrick from Collège La Providence in France

We opened the week with an introduction day dedicated to unpacking the topic of bullying—its
definition, different forms, and the various roles involved in such situations. Through group
discussions and reflection, participants explored the distinction between conflict and bullying,
paying special attention to the three key elements that set them apart.

The following day focused on one of the most complex and pervasive forms of bullying:
cyberbullying. In today’s digital age, the internet is deeply woven into students’ lives, offering
both valuable opportunities and significant risks. Through practical activities and open discussions,
participants examined how cyberbullying differs from—and sometimes overlaps with—traditional
bullying.

They also shared their own school experiences and explored effective strategies to help.

Midweek, the focus turned to bullying prevention, with a guiding question: how can schools foster
inclusive, safe, and collaborative environments? Through interactive and non-formal activities,
participants explored how trust, empathy, and a strong sense of belonging can significantly reduce
bullying behaviors and strengthen classroom communities.

On Thursday, attention shifted to the role of emotional intelligence in preventing bullying. Using
Daniel Goleman’s framework, participants reflected on key components such as emotional self-
awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and social skills.

Through group work and role-playing exercises, they experienced practical ways to help students develop these abilities and create more respectful, supportive relationships students navigate the online world safely.

The training concluded with a session on diversity and inclusion, emphasizing how valuing
different backgrounds, perspectives, and identities is fundamental to preventing discrimination
and bullying.

Participants explored strategies to promote inclusive teaching practices and foster
cultural awareness within their classrooms.

Beyond the learning itself, the course served as a valuable opportunity for educators to connect,
exchange ideas, and build professional relationships across borders—all against the inspiring
backdrop of Tenerife.
