It is becoming increasingly crucial for educational staff to develop their English skills, as the language is spoken widely across the world. This training course is designed to meet that need, acknowledging that English is now essential not only for personal development but also for encouraging intercultural exchanges between students and teachers, supporting educational travel, and accessing new teaching methods from educators worldwide. With a holistic approach, the course will introduce participants to the basics of English in a practical and intuitive way, helping them incorporate the language naturally into their everyday routines.
As it was previously named, the course “Basic English Language for Education Staff” took place in Tenerıfe from 09/11/2025 to 15/11/2025. All participants came from the same country, Italy, representing Istituto Comprensivo “Giuseppe Grassa”. The group was composed of Mariella, Debora, Giuseppe, Floriana, Margherita , Maria, Cinzia and Elisabetta.

The course began with an ice-breaking session in which participants had the opportunity to get to know each other as colleagues on a deeper level. They were guided by the trainer, who introduced essential language structures to help them learn how to introduce themselves and describe their daily lives using the present simple tense—a key grammatical form used to talk about habits, routines, and general facts.Participants then took part in the “Tree of Expectations” activity, where they shared their expectations, potential contributions, and fears about the course. This activity not only helped the trainer establish clear objectives but also enabled participants to identify their own strengths and areas for improvement.

As the course progressed, the group moved on to discussing daily routines. By continuing to practise the present simple tense, participants became more confident describing their weekly activities, incorporating adverbs of frequency oraz common verbs used in routines. For instance, they talked about their usual weekend plans and later completed their own personalised schedules by adding more details, such as when they carried out specific activities, why, and with whom.

On Wednesday, as the participants grew increasingly confident in their speaking, writing, and listening skills, the trainer introduced the past tense through the theme of travel. To begin, the trainer explained how to form the past tense with both regular and irregular verbs. Afterwards, the discussion focused on the participants’ most recent trips, providing a natural context for practising past-tense structures. Each participant wrote a short essay describing their holiday and presented it to the group, applying the newly learned grammar in a meaningful way. The fourth day shifted to the topic of dreams and future plans. Participants practised using the present continuous for arranged future events, as well as “will” oraz “going to” to talk about predictions and intentions. In addition, conversations about hobbies allowed them to express their personal interests and passions, making the activities more engaging and motivating.

On the final day, participants took part in a hands-on cooking activity designed to help them practise imperative verbs and expand their cooking-related vocabulary. They also worked on reading and writing emails—an essential skill for both personal and professional communication. This practical component ensured that the language they learned could be applied directly to everyday situations.

Through this five-day programme, learners were able to develop their English skills in a well-structured, engaging, and practical way. The course followed a clear progression, with each session building on previous knowledge to strengthen and expand their abilities. Real-life tasks—such as introducing themselves, talking about routines, and describing past trips—provided meaningful opportunities to apply language in authentic contexts. By focusing on key tenses (present simple, past simple, present continuous, and future forms), the course ensured a solid understanding of fundamental grammar. The use of stimulating topics, including travel, aspirations, and personal interests, kept learners motivated and connected to the content. Moreover, the integration of speaking, listening, reading, and writing activities supported balanced language development. Discussing routines, dreams, and hobbies also exposed participants to different perspectives, promoting cultural awareness and empathy.
