Today, English is becoming increasingly important for professionals working in education. Beyond being simply a school subject, it has become an essential communication tool that helps education staff connect with colleagues from other countries, participate in international projects, and discover new educational practices. With this objective in mind, the course Learning Basic English Language for Education Staff was created to provide participants with practical and accessible language skills that can easily be applied both in professional and everyday situations.
The training took place in Teneryfa z 10/05/2026 to 16/05/2026. The participants included Angela, Rita and Laura from Istituto Comprensivo Trento in Italy, Dominika from Dragan Kovačević in Serbia and Martyna and Renata from AES we Włoszech.
The course started with introductory activities that helped participants feel more confident using English in simple conversations. Through the use of the present simple tense, the group practised speaking about daily routines, habits, and everyday situations, developing essential communication skills for basic interactions. Participants also shared their expectations and personal learning objectives, creating a collaborative atmosphere and encouraging mutual support throughout the week.

After becoming more comfortable with discussing everyday topics, participants focused on using the past tense. Travel and personal experiences served as the main themes for these activities. The group practised building sentences using both regular and irregular verbs while sharing stories about previous holidays, journeys, and memorable experiences. Writing short texts and presenting them to classmates helped participants gradually improve their fluency and confidence in speaking English.
Later in the course, attention shifted towards future forms and expressions. Participants learned how to use the present continuous for future arrangements, as well as “will” and “going to” to express intentions, plans, and predictions. Conversations about hobbies, ambitions, and future projects made the lessons more engaging and personal, while also strengthening the bonds within the group.

Finally, on the last day, the participants took part in a treasure hunt in Puerto de la Cruz, having the possibility to explore the city while learning more English vocabularies. After that, the outdoor lesson was moved to Taoro Park, where they completed further activities related to reading and writing emails, time, and general understanding of texts, which are crucial skills for both personal and professional communication. This practical approach helps in applying language skills in real-life scenarios.
By the end of the course, participants had progressed from basic self-introductions to communicating more confidently in different situations and using several English tenses effectively. Most importantly, they experienced how language learning can foster cooperation, cultural exchange, and stronger interpersonal connections. For education staff, developing these communication skills can open new professional opportunities and support greater participation in international educational activities.
