In today\u2019s educational landscape, promoting\u00a0gender inclusivity<\/strong>\u00a0and preventing\u00a0gender-based discrimination\u00a0<\/strong>are essential to building environments where all students feel respected and valued. A key challenge for educators is supporting students in expressing their individual identities while encouraging\u00a0open-mindedness<\/strong>\u00a0that resists stereotypes and discrimination.<\/div>\n
The new edition of the course\u00a0\u201cPreventing Gender-Based Discrimination and Promoting Gender Inclusiveness in the Classroom\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>took place from\u00a018\/05\/2025 to 24\/05\/2025\u00a0<\/strong>in\u00a0Palermo<\/strong>. The participants came from various European countries, including Mika Sj\u00f6berg from\u00a0Live-s\u00e4\u00e4ti\u00f6sr\/ammattiopisto Live<\/strong>\u00a0in Finland, Michelle Steinert from\u00a0IGS Buchholz<\/strong>\u00a0in Germany, Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 Benitez Garc\u00eda from\u00a0IES Santa Margalida (Mallorca)<\/strong>\u00a0in Spain, Caroline Rask from\u00a0N\u00e4sbyparksskolan<\/strong>\u00a0in Sweden, Vera Borraccetti from\u00a0Haute Ecole Provinciale de Hainaut Condorcet<\/strong>\u00a0in Belgium, Nathalie de Fuisseaux and EdwigeBaubau from\u00a0Coll\u00e8ge Jean Rostand<\/strong>\u00a0in France and Juana Ruiz Mena from\u00a0EOI Madrid Tribunal<\/strong>\u00a0in Spain.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The course began by emphasizing the importance of\u00a0gender inclusivity<\/strong>\u00a0in educational settings. Participants explored fundamental concepts such as sex, gender, sexual orientation, and gender-based discrimination, engaging in discussions and activities that clarified the differences between these terms. They also discovered how gender norms and behaviors influence the learning environment.As the course progressed, we delved into the complexities of\u00a0gender identity<\/strong>\u00a0and the broad spectrum of labels associated with it. Through practical activities, participants learned how to address gender identity in the classroom and learned strategies to support students in developing self-awareness and confidence in expressing their identities.<\/div>\n
We also explored the topic of\u00a0gender stereotypes<\/strong>, examining traditional gender roles and how these are different across cultures and generations. Participants gained a deeper understanding of the different forms of\u00a0discrimination\u00a0<\/strong>related to sex, gender, and sexual orientation, including sexism, homophobia, and transphobia. The course also introduced the distinctions and similarities between sexual harassment and sexual assault, equipping participants with the knowledge and tools to address these sensitive issues effectively within their school communities.<\/div>\n
