Thinking beyond the brick-and-mortar walls of the traditional classroom when it comes to learning and preventing early school leaving, non formal education is <em>\u201cany organised educational activity outside the established formal system \u2013 whether operating separately or as an important feature of some broader activity \u2013 that is intended to serve identifiable learning clienteles and learning objectives\u201d (Philip Coombs, 1973).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new edition of the course \u201cNon-Formal Education Teaching Methods and Strategies\u200b\u201d took place in Palermo from 19\/04\/2026 to 25\/04\/2026. The participants came from all across Europe, with Andreia and Beatriz from <strong>Agrupamento de Escolas Fern\u00e3o do P\u00f3, Bombarral<\/strong> in Portugal, Tiina and Kai from <strong>Tallinn Folk High School <\/strong>in Estonia, Susanza from <strong>Agrupamento Escolas Argoncilhe<\/strong> in Portugal and Endre from <strong>K\u00e9k Erd\u0151 Alap\u00edtv\u00e1ny <\/strong>in Hungary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"wp-block-themeisle-blocks-slider-9cd0f4ac\" class=\"wp-block-themeisle-blocks-slider glide\" data-per-view=\"1\" data-gap=\"0\" data-peek=\"0\" data-autoplay=\"true\" data-glide-dir=\"=7\"><\/button><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At first, we started exploring <strong>visual strategies<\/strong>. Using art and creative thinking in making collages or drawing some topics, the participants tried to stimulate their expression with the use of metaphor. Thanks to different visual activities, we discovered together how art can be an easy way to discuss some topics and to express difficult concepts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then, we learned together how <strong>role-playing games and storytelling <\/strong>can be used to understand implications of a particular behaviour in a specific context and how it helps to analyse the contribution that each person can give in a particular role position.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We also learned the importance of <strong>team building and team working <\/strong>in education: collaborating with other team members can be very productive and it gives each member the opportunity to give their contribution inside the group.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Debate and speaking games <\/strong>are another kind of non-formal educational activity: these types of games are useful for enhancing cooperative learning and to develop a dialectic approach. Competing in the Oxford Debate, participants fostered creativity in finding non-conventional and persuasive arguments and experienced how to behave in order to collaborate with the others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After having analysed together the different tools and the various strategies of non-formal education, each participant had the opportunity to autonomously develop a new tool, to use in their own school context.
