In our efforts to equip students with 21st\u00a0century skills while preparing them for real world careers and challenges, we often overlook our responsibility as educators to dream and create environments where everyone has the chance to\u00a0be creative and bring out the best<\/strong>\u00a0in themselves.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\u200bThe\u00a0new edition of the course \u201cCreativity for the future: promoting Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving in the classroom\u200b\u201d took place in Palermo from 09\/03\/2025 to 15\/03\/2025. The participants came from all across Europe, with Anna Idman, Mervi Laakso, Anders Johansson and Teemu Lento from\u00a0Lohjan kaupunki\/K\u00e4llhagens skola<\/strong>\u00a0in Finland, Carina Callander from\u00a0K\u00e4llvindsskolan, Komvux Norrk\u00f6ping<\/strong>\u00a0in Sweden, Sandis Bardins from\u00a0Rigas 6. Vidusskola<\/strong>\u00a0in Latvia and Krzysztof Dziadek, Danuta Zawadzka, Agnieszka Moskal, Igor Pogonowski and Dariusz Kotarski from\u00a0Politechnika Koszali\u0144ska<\/strong>\u00a0in Poland.<\/div>\n
\u200bDiscussing the key competences for thriving in the\u00a021st\u00a0century, participants explored\u00a0learning and innovation skills<\/strong>,\u00a0digital skills<\/strong>, and career and life skills, with a particular focus on the 4Cs:\u00a0critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration<\/strong>. Most importantly, we experienced through hands-on practice how our brains and thinking skills work differently when we face a problem that needs to be solved.<\/div>\n

\u200bParticipants were presented with a series of challenges designed to help them reflect on how common barriers to creative thinking can be overcome by applying specific strategies. For instance, by using the 6 Thinking Hats method, participants practiced \u2018\u2018lateral thinking\u2019\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0and explored its practical application to the content they are currently teaching. Through individual exercises and feedback from colleagues, it became clear that this method can be used across all subjects, from science to language learning, and also as a formative assessment tool to\u00a0encourage students to think outside the box<\/strong>.<\/div>\n
\u200bRegarding\u00a0visual strategies<\/strong>, participants got to see new activities which could be a basis\u00a0for brainstorming or discussing students\u00b4 ideas<\/strong>\u00a0and stimulating their creative expressions in that way. By proposing an\u00a0innovative and digital perspective<\/strong>, we challenged an \u201conly-art\u201d perception of what \u201cvisual thinking\u201d includes.<\/div>\n

\u200bA reflection on the importance of fostering students\u2019 critical thinking skills is essential in a world where they are often passively exposed to huge amounts of (dis)information. Participants engaged in activities focused on\u00a0reasoning, questioning, and debating<\/strong>, all of which can be adapted to various classroom settings to help students become\u00a0active and conscious agents in their own learning<\/strong>.<\/div>\n
\u200bTo bring creativity and critical thinking into the classroom, we must not only struggle to find new solutions, but also recognize that innovation often comes from\u00a0reimagining traditional tools<\/strong>. Our participants enjoyed playing classic games, and had the chance to adapt them to their own subjects, strengthening the learning experience in the process.<\/div>\n
\u200bFinishing the course, the participants had the chance to recap the week on posters in a creative way. Finally, they are bringing back new experiences and tools to apply in their own classrooms!<\/div>\n
