“I had the pleasure of attending a one-week training course on outdoor learning in Tenerife, and it was truly a wonderful experience. The course was both intimate and inspiring, offering valuable insights into outdoor education in breathtaking natural settings like Mount Teide and the Anaga mountains. Our instructor, Aleks, was absolutely outstanding :) knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate. This week enriched my professional skills and left me unforgettable memories.”

“My Erasmus+ experience was really great. I've learned new creativity skills and I've already used some of them in my school. I met a nice group of teachers from others countries and I could share my experiences with them. I discovered a new country – Tenerife and I was excited with Teide volcano. Our tutors were well prepared and very pleasant.”

Why Choosing Tenerife

En rejoignant notre Erasmus Training Courses in Tenerife teachers and education staff will have the possibility to discover what is known as the “Island of Eternal Spring”: it will be like travelling to a paradise on earth.
In this page you will learn more about Tenerife and about the Erasmus Training Courses taking place in Tenerife in which teachers and education staff can participate receiving an Erasmus+ grant covering all of the costs.

What Tenerife Offers

The island has always been a crossroad of cultures, with comings and goings of people travelling for many centuries for commerce, war or politics. Its past history has certainly shaped the character of its inhabitants, who are always friendly, easy-going and eager to connect. Today, Tenerife is a very popular destination for tourists. With a wide range of activities to suit all tastes, you’ll be spoilt for choice on how to spend your free time: from adventure parks and world-famous zoos, to cultural visits and exploration of ancient cities and unique native plants. And at the end of the day, if you feel in the right mood, you can go for “tapas” in one of the many “Tascas”, typical taverns or bars, serving drinks and especially good food!

Things to do in Tenerife in your free time

Trekking in Teide National Park, Tenerife

Trekking in Teide National Park

Teide National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the second most visited park in the world. Teide’s peak reaches 3,715 metres in height and due to its gigantic size, it casts the largest sea shadow in the world. You can reach the top with a cable car, or decide to explore the many other quite impressive rock formations of lava origins, like Roques de Garcia or Roque Cinchado.

La Orotava and La Laguna, Tenerife

La Orotava and La Laguna

La Laguna (UNESCO heritage) and La Orotava are the best places to visit if you’re interested in getting lost in narrow streets, dreaming of living in another time and traveling back to the 15th century. In these cities, you will see authentic Canary Islands architecture, with Portuguese and Central American influence, characterized by typical wood balconies and central patios

Miradora de Masca, Tenerife

Miradora de Masca

Nestled between the steep slopes of the Macizo de Teno mountains where residents of Tenerife used to hide when they were being attacked by pirates, Masca is a scenic small village offering views like no other. With a very similar appearance to small towns of Peruvian Andes, Masca can be the right choice to take your postcard-like photo!

Icod de los Vinos and Dragon tree

Icod de los Vinos combines natural resources, popular and artistic heritage. Of all the things to see in Icod, the most iconic feature is the Drago Milenario. This tree, with a height of nearly 20 metres, has become the symbol of both the town and of the entire island. Protagonist of many myths and legends, this tree is a specimen of the Dracaena draco, an endangered species typical of Tenerife that can only be found in very few other places in the world.

Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife

Puerto de la Cruz

Despite being one of the most touristic and popular enclaves on the island of Tenerife, Puerto de la Cruz hasn’t lost its authenticity like other cities on the island. From the spectacular Lago Martiánez swimming pool complex, to its peculiar volcanic sand beach Playa Jardín; from the world-wide famous zoo Loro Parque, to the 18th-century botanical garden, Puerto has a lot to offer.

Trying Traditional Canarian Food, Tenerife

Trying Traditional Canarian Food

Ok, time to take out your block note and start the list “Food to try when in Tenerife”. Ready? Let’s go! Rancho canario, legumes soup with meat; Papas Arugadas with Mojos, potatoes served with two sauces and Queso Asado, grill-roasted cheese are just a few examples of typical dishes that can be served in restaurants or as tapas-bars. A special mention for the Canarian bananas, which flavour is quite unique!

Whale watching in Los Gigantes

Los Gigantes Cliffs are one of Tenerife most spectacular landscapes. If you want to enjoy one of the best views of the cliffs, you should head over to the most famous Mirador de Archipenque or alternatively to Punta de Teno. While in Los Gigantes, you may want to consider booking a boat trip to spot dolphins in the ocean (as well as whales, if you are lucky enough!).

Getting lost in Anaga Park, Tenerife

Getting lost in Anaga Park

The Anaga area is one of the most magical fairytale-like places in Tenerife, with uncontaminated wild beaches and laurel forests, last remaining specimens of vegetation formed millions of years ago which disappeared after the Ice Aged. The area became a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2015, and with its infinite web of hiking trails, it is a Mecca for hikers and natural lovers.

Exploring wild beaches, Tenerife

Exploring wild beaches

Don’t be fooled by popular destinations in Costa Adeje, Playa de las Americas or Los Cristianos, which some might even consider tourist traps: they will never show you the true essence of the Canarian beaches. For a more genuine experience, the best option is to explore the true rarity that are wild black beaches. Some examples? Playa El Bollullo and Playa Jardin near Puerto de la Cruz, Playa del Socorro in the North, Playa de los Guios in the West or Playa de Las Gaviotas in the East part of the island.

Garachico and natural swimming pools, Tenerife

Garachico and natural swimming pools

Before being almost completely destroyed by a volcanic explosion in 1706, Garachico was the gateway to Tenerife. Its port was the most prosperous on the island, an essential stop for commercial ships sailing the Atlantic. The catastrophe came down as a blessing in disguise: despite losing its economical influence, Garachico is today considered one of the most beautiful town on the island, with its major attraction being “El Caletón”, a series of natural pools formed by lava on the town’s coastline.
