The participants came from Italy with Stefania, Nello, Marilena, Benedetta, Lucia, Marina,Licia, Stefania, Giulia, Noris, Barbara, Lorenza, Valentina, Francesca, Maria Giovanna, Maria Paola, Anna Rita and
Patrizia from Istituto Professionale di Stato Servizi ASSISI.
Early school leaving is a widespread issue across Europe, and in this European context, participants had the opportunity to explore the problem from different national perspectives.
On the first day, they worked on defining what early school leaving means and identifying its main risk factors. This process enabled them to draw and share a realistic picture of their own school contexts—examining the underlying causes and reflecting on the potential consequences.

We started from the assumption that in order to develop an early school leaving approach, we deeply need to connect to our students, to be closer to their interests and their feelings. The participants engaged in hands-on
activities to learn about the importance of active listening and emotional intelligence in creating social connection.
The participants went on discovering the conflict management topic. First, we dedicated some time for a perspective change. With the support of an inspirational TED Talk, the group who initially associated the idea of conflict to something essentially negative, realized afterwards how conflicts provided in their life unique opportunities to improve their relationship, communication and understanding.
Next, the group engaged in non-formal activities to explore the importance of belonging and collaboration.
They examined strategies for effective teamwork and peer education.
The focus then shifted to addressing negativity in the classroom through group reflections and hands-onexercises. Participants analyzed various conflict management styles and discussed how to apply them in real-life scenarios. They identified common “negative” student behaviors and developed practical tips for handling these situations effectively. The session concluded with a team challenge that helped participants learn how to cultivate a growth mindset in their students. To wrap up, participants explored the phenomenon of bullying
through visual exercises and group reflections, focusing on strategies to become active upstanders and effectively stop bullying. The overarching theme of the week was “transformation”: learning to shift perspectives on conflict, channel the strong and sometimes challenging energy of students into positive and productive outcomes, embrace a growth mindset, and turn a group of individuals into a cohesive team.
Más información sobre este curso aquí.

Today, more than ever, it is essential to address the factors that can help prevent and manage early school leaving and classroom conflicts.
