Using case study videos, they analyzed and identified these components within real project examples. Very quickly, participants came to understand that PBL is not simply another type of classroom project, but a structured pedagogical approach with its own methodology, principles, and requirements.

From this starting point, the group began unpacking the development of a PBL experience into several key phases:

Preparation of the class for Project-Based Learning. Through reflection and discussion, participants recognized the importance of preparing students with the necessary skills and mindset for PBL, including curiosity, critical thinking, inquiry, and, above all, collaboration.

Defining Learning Outcomes and Backward Design. A fundamental principle of PBL is its alignment with the curriculum, ensuring that it is not treated as an additional or optional activity at the end of a unit, but as an integral part of the learning process.

Designing the Driving Question and project framework. A central feature of PBL is the “Driving Question,” which acts as the engine of student learning. In seeking solutions to the challenge posed, students engage in research and inquiry that naturally leads them to explore and master key concepts from the relevant subject areas.

Developing appropriate assessment strategies. One of the main concerns raised by participants was how to assess individual progress within group work contexts. During this part of the course, they explored the difference between formative and summative assessment, recognizing the greater value of formative approaches in tracking and supporting student development.

ICT tools supporting Project-Based Learning. Effective implementation of PBL is closely linked to the use of digital tools. Participants had the opportunity to experiment with a range of technologies that facilitate planning, collaboration, and execution of PBL activities in the classroom.

What made the learning experience particularly meaningful was that participants were actively designing their own PBL projects throughout the week. Each day, after exploring a new component of PBL, they worked in groups to develop a project tailored to their students’ age and context. This process not only helped clarify concepts and resolve potential doubts, but also created space for idea-sharing and collaboration with colleagues from different countries. The final result fostered a strong sense of accomplishment and a shared commitment to implementing their projects once back in their own classrooms.

Μάθετε περισσότερα για αυτό το μάθημα εδώ.

Schools programs are full of projects and initiatives that aim at teaching in a more innovative and involving way to our students.
