In our pursue of preparing students for real world careers and challenges and equipping them with 21st-century skills, we often forget that as educators, we have a duty to dream and create spaces where everyone has the opportunity to\u00a0be creative and bring out the best<\/strong>\u00a0in themselves.<\/div>\n
The recent edition of the course \u201cPromoting Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Problem-Solving in the Classroom\u201d was held in Bologna from13\/10\/24 to 19\/10\/24. Participants from various European countries came together to engage in a week-long exploration of 21st-century skills and innovative pedagogical strategies. Representing Spain, Finland, and Slovakia were Estibaliz Martinez Santamaria from Santa Mar\u00eda Ikastetxea<\/strong>, Petteri Granat from Vaskivuori Upper Secondary School<\/strong>, Anna Kauppila from OSAO<\/strong>, and Zuzana Laba\u0161ov\u00e1 along with Eva Habalov\u00e1 from Slovakian schools<\/strong>.<\/div>\n

Throughout the week, the participants delved into various thought-provoking themes designed to enhance their approach to teaching. Each day, the group focused on different aspects of critical and creative thinking, beginning with an overview of 21st century skills<\/strong> and the vital distinction between convergent and divergent thinking<\/strong>. This set the stage for participants to reflect on how their students process information and approach problem-solving.<\/div>\n

Thinking outside the box<\/strong> became the focus of the second day, with a series of activities aimed at helping educators break free from traditional thought patterns. Participants practiced applying unconventional solutions to common classroom challenges, realizing the potential of fostering similar creativity in their students.
Midweek, the emphasis shifted to visual strategies<\/strong> – ways in which educators can use visual tools to stimulate creative expression and critical analysis in their classrooms. These activities introduced the group to innovative digital tools that can be adapted across various subjects to encourage active participation and brainstorming among students.<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
The fourth day introduced the art of questioning<\/strong> as a powerful tool for education. Participants engaged in a silent brainstorming workshop<\/strong>, where they learned how transforming challenges into opportunities can encourage deeper inquiry and exploration. Through carefully crafted questions, students can be guided toward independent problem-solving.
On the final day, the group explored the concept of non-formal education<\/strong>, participating in problem-solving games designed to foster creativity. These activities provided a hands-on opportunity for educators to develop their own creative toolkits, which can be adapted to any classroom setting to inspire and challenge students in new ways.<\/div>\n

Each day also featured the integration of one ICT tool<\/strong>, giving participants practical experience with technology that can enhance both teaching and learning. These tools empowered participants to embrace innovation in their classrooms, supporting both creativity and critical thinking.<\/p>\n

The course concluded with a personalized reflection on the journey. Participants shared insights from their experiences and the cultural richness of Bologna, which included collaborative problem-solving and tours of the city\u2019s historical landmarks. The week ended with newfound connections, laughter, and a renewed commitment to embedding creativity and problem-solving in their teaching practices.<\/div>\n<\/td>\n
