Technology is changing how we live, work, and learn—and education can’t afford to stay behind. From July 27 to August 2, 2025, a group of European educators came together in Porto to explore how digital tools and AI can enhance learning and boost student engagement in real, practical ways.

The course, Integrating ICT, New Technologies and AI Tools into Teaching and Education, welcomed participants from across the continent. From Italy, Maria Concetta Castanò and Miriam Cilurzo represented IIS “Guarasci-Calabretta“, while Giuditta Castellano and Angela Venneri joined from Liceo Scientifico e Linguistico A. Vallone. Silvia Amoruso, Gabriella Zambetti, and Giuseppe Noia took part from Istituto Don Milani in Bari. Also part of the group were Marta Marcos Fradejas from CEPA Antonio Herrera in Spain, Zdeňka Schormová from ZŠ Brno, Herčíkova 19 in the Czech Republic, and Natalia Borowiec from AGH University of Krakow v Polsku.
The week started with introductions and an overview of how digital tools can help teachers manage lessons, encourage participation, and make learning more collaborative. Everyone got hands-on from the start, using interactive platforms to share ideas and experiences while reflecting on their own teaching styles.

Each day focused on different tools and strategies. From simple polling and quiz apps to platforms for real-time feedback and brainstorming, the participants explored a wide mix of digital resources—always with one goal in mind: how to make lessons more engaging for their students
Midweek, the spotlight shifted to artificial intelligence. The group explored how AI can support education, especially when it comes to generating prompts, adapting materials, or sparking creativity. Through exercises and discussions, they considered how to use these tools responsibly and effectively, both in class and behind the scenes.

By the end of the course, the participants had tried out dozens of tools—from gamified quizzes to collaborative platforms for presenting content—and gained a deeper understanding of how to use technology with intention. It wasn’t about using tech for tech’s sake; it was about choosing the right tools to support learning goals and meet students where they are.
Along the way, there was plenty of time for sharing ideas, comparing experiences, and getting inspired by each other. As always, the mix of backgrounds, teaching contexts, and subjects made the learning richer.

After a week of experimenting, collaborating, and creating, the group left Porto with a toolkit of ideas—and a renewed motivation to bring more interactivity, creativity, and digital confidence into their classrooms.
