\u200bWhile academic learning <\/strong>is the foundation of education<\/strong>, more and more educators are recognising the importance of students’ skills such as collaboration, self-discipline<\/strong>, and conflict resolution<\/strong>. These skills may be underestimated but are essential<\/strong> to a student’s overall growth<\/strong> and development<\/strong>.
Our participants Adelina, Irina and Cristina from “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” National College<\/strong>, Romania, tested ”on their skin”<\/strong>, a series of practical activities that will come in handy for their teaching, and they are related to emotional intelligence<\/strong>.<\/div>\n

This course took place in Palermo from 05\/12\/2022 to 16\/12\/2022 with a brief introduction to 21st-century skills: <\/strong>what we know<\/strong>, what we can do<\/strong>, and what we feel like doing<\/strong>. In addition to the required skills <\/strong>such as linguistic, scientific, and technological ones, the teachers analysed<\/strong> the concept of emotional intelligence <\/strong>that mainly focuses on empathy<\/strong>, communication<\/strong>, leadership<\/strong>, and mentoring.<\/strong> Through a series of activities, the participants were able to learn more about practising these skills and building a connection<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The activities were inspired by the studies of Daniel Goleman <\/strong>who states that organisations can be improved through better management of emotions<\/strong>. The wheel of emotions <\/strong>is a powerful tool for self-awareness<\/strong> and self-control that helps<\/strong> to understand others directly and honestly.<\/p>\n

A teacher must be a leader, here the qualities<\/strong> and concept of leadership <\/strong>are discussed in an interesting debate with emphasis on non-verbal communication: body language <\/strong>is also relevant!
The leader should not exclude<\/strong> team members, communication <\/strong>is essential for teamwork. <\/strong>A passive<\/strong> or aggressive attitude<\/strong> must be avoided to promote an assertive approach.

Fundamental training is the one held regarding public speaking<\/strong> in which participants used the advice they learned to improve their exposure in public<\/strong>. Now they feel more secure<\/strong> and can handle conflict<\/strong> and stress better.

In the course were taken into account cultural differences<\/strong>: Teachers shared their own stories<\/strong> and weaknesses<\/strong> making the environment<\/strong> more familiar and serene, making collaboration<\/strong> easier thanks to the presence of mutual trust<\/strong>.<\/div>\n
